• Scouting for turkeys again this morning, I left the trailer at 6 am using a flashlight to guide my way.  About half-way up the hill to my cabin, there is a rock sticking out on the trail, I call “the tooth”. I call it that because it reminds me of the “Tooth of Time” at Philmont Boy Scout Ranch in New Mexico. The Tooth is Philmont’s logo and is a very recognizable icon.   In 1994 and 1998, our Troop went to Philmont, where we backpacked 10 days in the mountains. This was a tremendous adventure for me and both of my sons.
  • It’s funny how a sense, whether it be sight, smell, hearing, touch, can trigger a memory that we have buried in our minds, and we get to relive that memory right now.  It can be a memory from yesterday, 10, 20, or 50 years ago. I have said all of this to remind you that when you harvest your turkey this spring or your big buck this fall, or whatever adventure you are doing.  One great picture of your experience can bring you back to that special moment every time you see it.
  • The other day I was driving and pushed one of my pre-set buttons on my radio, it was an Oldies station and  I heard “Magic Carpet Ride” by Steppenwolf playing. Immediately I was transported back to my high school years and was sitting in my red 69 VW at Dairy Queen.  As we are making memories, find a way to capture them. Hope you have a memorable day. The takeaway today is taking lots of pictures of your trophies or events for great memories to relive.
